October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Here are some common signs of domestic abuse from the National Domestic Violence Hotline
Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, isn’t just physical abuse. It is any pattern of behavior used to maintain power and control over the other partner in a relationship and it is not OK. If you feel trapped in a relationship, please know you are not alone. Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men and does not discriminate based on gender, sexuality, religion, education or economic status.
Orders of Protection can be obtained when your current or former spouse or romantic partner harasses you, threatens to commit domestic violence, or does commit violence. This legal document prohibits a person from having unwanted contact with you and is meant to prevent future domestic violence and harassment.
